Phoenix – Thursday, Sept. 14 is “GO ORANGE DAY,’ where St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance encourages everyone to wear Orange – the color of hunger – and show their support for those in need.
More than one in five Arizonans struggle with hunger each day of the year. One in four children isn’t able to enjoy three meals a day. And each September, food banks across the country attempt to raise awareness and encourage activities designed to help those in need during Hunger Action Month.
Events planned for GO ORANGE DAY include:
***Arizona politicians and television personalities will be wearing GO ORANGE ties, scarves and other clothing to mark the day and will be sending out photos and tweeting their support of Hunger Action Month. We invite everyone to do the same and use the hash tag #GoOrange and tag us @StMarysFoodBank so we can post your unique support of this effort.
****Governor Doug Ducey has proclaimed September 2017 as Hunger Action Month in the state of Arizona. The State Capitol Dome will glow orange on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 14-15 to help raise awareness of hunger in Arizona.
***Arizona’s tallest building, the 483-foot Chase Tower in Phoenix, will glow orange – the color of hunger – on Thursday as a reminder of those who go to bed hungry each day. Chase employees will also hold a food drive during September.
*** ***How else can YOU help? It’s as simple as forgoing that designer coffee or brown-bagging your lunch and donating the savings to St. Mary’s at www.firstfoodbank.org. Every donation of five dollars will allow the food bank to distribute enough food for 35 meals into the community.
